Stanly Cosgrove was born in montreal on the 23 of December, 1911. He inters Montreal’s school of fine arts in 1929 and is taught by Joseph Saint-Charles, Edwin Holgate and Charles Maillard. In the thirties, his work is successful and he receives a bursary to go to France. The War starts had he has to go to Mexico were he inscribes himself at the Academy of San Carlos. He will become the assistant of the Jose Clemente Orozco. His paintings are in majority still life, landscapes and a few portraits and nudes. His landscapes are remarkable for the quality of his compositions, they provoke a certain fascination and surprise. A certain mystery an poetry is found in his paintings.
